Giving anyone your friend’s name is usually a remarkable tribute, but if you’re the world famous actress Jennifer Aniston, it might get you into hot water.
Aniston is currently doing press for the new Netflix original film Dumplin’ with country icon Dolly Parton providing the soundtrack for the endeavor. It was on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that Aniston told the story of her dispute with Parton when it comes to dog names.
A devout fan of Dolly, Aniston decided to name her dog after the superstar. It didn’t quite go as planned.
“I know when she said ‘I named my dog Dolly after you, I didn’t know how I felt about that.'”
“And I was like ‘oh god, I’ve insulted her.’ Then the interviewer said ‘well would you now get a dog and name it Jennifer?'”
“And I said ‘well that’s so not a dog’s name. I’ve never met a dog named Jennifer.’ So I guess, I slightly offended her.”

In some circles, the exchange brought up the issue of naming pets after humans.
Twitter had thoughts.
I actually like human names for pets. I think it's hilarious. And the more "human" sounding the name, the funnier it is. A dog named Richard and a cat named Jennifer. Fantastic!

I've named almost all my pets with human names. Dogs : Timmy, Toby, Cindy & Romeo. Cats: Samantha, Donovan, Bobby, Mindy, Sebastian, Jude, Missy, Tommy, Elsie (after my mum) and Francis. Also a Guinea Pig I had as a teen named Jerry.

Though Aniston may blush at the faux pas with Parton, it’s clear that the two are fans of each other — but perhaps pet names should be off the table.
Dumplin’ is currently streaming on Netflix.
