Oprah Reveals What Was Really Going Through Her Mind In That Viral Chicken Clip ????

On Saturday, December 8, Spencer Althouse of BuzzFeed shared a 2006 clip from The Oprah Winfrey Show in which Oprah samples a chicken dish that a guest made from a recipe that won $1 million in a competition.

Althouse posted the clip to Twitter. It shows the “Queen of All Media” tasting the chicken as the chef, Anna Ginsberg, looks on. As Oprah eats, you can read the expression on her face as she tries to figure out what’s wrong.

Oprah finally asks:

“Did we add salt and pepper? I think we needed salt and pepper.”

And Ginsberg responds:

“No, there’s no salt and pepper in it.”

Oprah ends the clip by saying she thinks it’s delicious  — a sentiment that no one was buying.

As the tweet went viral, with thousands of retweets and comments, it could not be ignored. Oprah obviously had to weigh in.

On Thursday, Oprah responded.

Oprah explains her thought process. She says she tried to balance things on her show by ensuring her guests had a positive experience while also making every effort to “stay in [her] own truth.”

Her dilemma came from not wanting to offend Ginsberg, but…

“This chicken needs some salt and pepper.”

People were excited she spoke out — and Spencer was the most excited of all.

Anna Ginsberg, who now has a blog called Cookie Madness, saw the clip and Oprah’s response, and she took it all in stride.

While The Oprah Winfrey Show concluded in 2011, Oprah has remained an ever-present figure in the pop culture landscape. She has the television channel OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network, and O, The Oprah Magazine, and she starred as Mrs. Which in the recent film adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time.
