Has French First Lady Brigitte Macron joined the #SaveMelania movement? Her words to French paper Le Monde upon return from hers and her husband’s trip to the States seem to indicate so. Though she spoke highly of Melania’s sense of humor and warmth, Macron still couldn’t help but spill some tea:
“[Melania] cannot do anything. She can’t even open a window at the White House. She can’t go outside. She’s much more constrained than I am. I go out every day in Paris. “
Though meaning is often misconstrued in translation, the sentiments seem to echo what many Americans have been speculating since the 2016 election: That Melania was somehow trapped in a marriage and eventually chained to her husband’s improbable presidency.
Naturally, Twitter couldn’t help but run with Macron’s words.
Wonder if they are afraid she'l try to escape, or if they need to keep the place childproofed for the big orange baby?

God, if she could open a window I'm sure she'd escape.

Time she gets out of that sick marriage to the pervert Donald

Michelle Obama went outside and gardened with kids. Why can't Melania do that or even open a window. Her tan must be coming from a tanning bed. https://t.co/WbcCTj4ou3

Very funny and appropriate, given that Melania isn't permitted outside or to even crack open a window.

I think Melania should go old school on her cheating husband, and through all of Spankies clothes and shit out the White House window and change the locks. Let Spanky go sleep on Pences coach

Many skeptical users were quick to assert that White House security is far more rigid than that across the pond.
The Secret Service sealed the windows decades ago, to stop chemical/gas attacks entering the building. This isn't even trivia, let alone news.

It's called security….. The secret service governs on when a window in the White House can and cannot be opened…….

Likely Brigitte wanted to go for a walk around DC and Melania told her it wasn't safe; then Brigitte wanted to open a window and Melania told her no. Brigitte felt restrained and couldn't do anything. Melania – an elegant, intelligent, responsible first lady.

While we may never verify exactly what Macron was implying, the overwhelming pity and concern for Melania is a good gauge to indicate just how many Americans feel trapped in her husband’s presidency right along with her.
