You guys remember that time the literal entire world laughed at our President on live international television?
In case you missed it, here’s how it went down: President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, stood in front of a hot mic and spoke the words, “In less than two years, my administration has accomplished more than almost any administration in the history of our country.” Which is an interesting way to look at it. And then the leadership of the literal entire world LOL’d at him on live international television!
(Also when he says “more than almost any administration,” one can’t help but wonder which administration he actually concedes first place to, but that’s neither here nor there.)
Anyway, Trump’s appearance at yesterday’s UN General Assembly was a thing that happened, and it was very weird for everyone, and nobody knew whether to laugh or cry or laughcry! Which is why we should all thank God for Stephen Colbert in our nightly prayers, because he went on telly himself last night and just nailed it.
Speaking about the moment when, to reiterate, the leadership of the literal entire world laughed out loud at him on live international television, Colbert said sympathetically, “Don’t worry, Mr. President, they’re not laughing at you. They’re laughing with each other at you.” Which is about as dead-on as you can get.
Colbert went on to give a hilarious play-by-play of the rest of Trump’s speech, comparing his verbal attacks on other countries to “working the room like an insult comic” (followed by an excellent Trump impression), and joking about how jealous Putin will be when he hears how Donny praised North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.
Judging from social media, people are on the same page as Colbert!
Even people on the other side of the world weighed in:
For others, Colbert’s take-down was a buttress and a balm in these difficult times:
Perhaps the best reaction of all was a limerick shared by a Colbert fan:
The perfect companion to Colbert’s takedown!
