Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has had enough of conservatives degrading her.
Rightwing news outlet The Daily Caller published a nude photo of a woman and misled readers into thinking it was the freshman Democratic congresswoman, with the headline, “Here’s the photo some people described as a nude selfie of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.”
The representative from New York city fired back on Wednesday, tweeting, “GOP have been losing their mind + frothing at the mouth all week, so this was just a matter of time.”
In the same tweet, she informed followers that a British tabloid reporter went to her “boyfriend’s relative’s homes” to solicit personal information in exchange for cash.
GOP have been losing their mind + frothing at the mouth all week, so this was just a matter of time.
There is also a Daily Mail reporter (Ruth Styles) going to my boyfriend’s relative’s homes+offering them cash for “stories.”
Women in leadership face more scrutiny. Period. https://t.co/KuHJ75sdMg

For about a month, the photo of a nude woman’s bare feet protruding from the edge of a bathtub had already made the rounds on the internet, prompting a subreddit thread discrediting the claim that the image was of the politician.
Ocasio-Cortez wrote a follow-up tweet in which she explained what happened and called the episode “Completely disgusting behavior from Conservative outlets.”
She also referenced Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who denied professor Christine Blasey Ford’s allegations of sexual assault in high school.
For those out of the loop, Republicans began to circulate a fake nude photo of me. The @DailyCaller reposted it (!) and refused to indicate it was fake in the title as well.
Completely disgusting behavior from Conservative outlets.
No wonder they defended Kavanaugh so fiercely.

According to People, the Daily Caller changed the headline to indicate that the person in the photo was not Ocasio-Cortez, and added an amendment at the bottom of the piece, which reads:
“An earlier version of the headline for this story made an inaccurate implication. The story has since been updated for accuracy.”
The Caller addressed the fake nude photo but defended the story by citing other news sources that published similar articles.
“The story itself is otherwise no different than what HuffPo and Vice published.”
As soon as editors noticed the twitter headline, we rapidly had it deleted and fixed. The story itself is otherwise no different than what HuffPo and Vice published.
We regret the error, as the intent was to inform our audience that a fake image was circulating online. https://t.co/aClyRLnjQZ

But one keen observer pointed out the difference, tweeting, “One of these informs an audience. The other misinforms them.”
The Vice headline is: "A Fake Nude of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Was Debunked By Foot Fetishists"
The Daily Caller headline is: "Here's The Photo Some People Described As A Nude Selfie Of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez"
One of these informs an audience. The other misinforms them.

The title from the Vice article reads, “A Fake Nude of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Was Debunked By Foot Fetishists,” unlike the Caller‘s original title. Emphasis on the “Fake” in the headline, here.
On Thursday, Caller editor Geoffrey Ingersoll defensively tweeted, “The story is about how your enemies – who Betsy describes as both horrible and evil – conjured up this fake nude and spread it online.”
“You must just be trying to score cheap political points since there is no way you could have a real issue with her post.”

The updated headline still says a lot about the publication.
It was the @DailyCaller that spread the fake pics, and there are federal laws at play now. This was a bad move in their part.

It is worth mentioning that the Caller was co-founded by Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

The 29-year-old representative for New York’s 14th congressional district has been here before. Conservatives rattled by her classification as a democratic socialist taunted her numerous times before, yet she always has her dukes up, ready to rebuff any criticism.
Recently, a Twitter user with the handle “AnonymousQ” tried to shame the Congresswoman by posting an old video of her from when she was at Boston University dancing in a parody music video. The bullying attempt backfired, and she responded with a short clip of herself dancing outside the congressional office and demonstrating she is still in the groove.
The young Congresswoman is fearless in speaking out against right-wing critics. And her supporters want her to know they have her back.
Sister…They HATE what they FEAR, so keep representing your district. Even though I live in Southern California I am, as well as many others across our great nation support you. Keep keeping on a always put God first, because the devil (@realDonaldTrump) is in the oval office!

They are afraid of losing their power @AOC stay strong sister

This is absolutely appalling. The misogyny here is on full display. Such practice should be condemned even if they acknowledged the fakery. Such practice not only aggravates the danger to you, but to all women.

🤦♀️ She's not supposed to dance; she's not supposed to smile; and, she's not supposed to scare the shit out of the Old Boy's Society!?! Too. Flipping. Bad! Get em, @AOC! ♥️

They want her to be Susan Collins and the other pearl-clutching ladies. She is not going to become one of them because she can think for herself and puts her constituents first. Thank you, @AOC, for giving us hope for change in the status quo!

Ocasio-Cortez defied expectations when she became the biggest upset winner in the 2018 midterm election primaries. Since then, right-leaning media outlets constantly mock her in a manner she describes as sexist.
She also revealed there were “double standards” in how she and former House Speaker Paul Ryan were treated when they were first elected to Congress. But the outspoken politician is not putting up with the incessant online bullying, as indicated with her recent Twitter response.
She is not the woman naked in the photo, but Ocasio-Cortez definitely has her gloves off.
