The gloves are off when it comes to current Saturday Night Live (SNL) cast member, Pete Davidson and SNL alum, Chevy Chase (a founding member of SNL’s Not Ready For Prime-Time Players).
It all started with a recent article in The Washington Post titled Chevy Chase Can’t Change: The 74-year-old comedy star is sober and ready to work, the problem is nobody wants to work with him, where Chase shared his no-holds-barred feelings about the current incarnation of the show that made him:
I’m amazed that Lorne [Michaels] has gone so low. I had to watch a little of it, and I just couldn’t f—ing believe it,” Chase told the Washington Post. “That means a whole generation of s—heads laughs at the worst f—ing humor in the world. You know what I mean? How could you dare give that generation worse s— than they already have in their lives? It just drives me nuts.

Apparently, this is where current cast member Davidson comes in, feeling offended not only for himself and the current cast but also for the show’s creator and executive producer, Lorne Michaels—the man who gave both Chase and Davidson their big breaks.
Chatting with satellite radio shock jock, Howard Stern on his SiriusXM radio show, Davidson hit back saying:
He’s a f—ing douchebag. F— Chevy Chase. He’s just a genuinely bad, racist person and I don’t like him. He’s a putz.
But there were those who were confused by Davidson calling Chase a racist:
If you disagree with a liberal you are a racist… even loyal for decades liberal Democrat Chevy Chase. 😉 SNL's Pete Davidson slams Chevy Chase as 'a genuinely bad, racist person'https://t.co/Q8lH1xXy3H

Why is that moron pot head calling Chevy Chase a racist all he said is this SNL cast is not funny and it’s true so fuck you Pete Davidson your a fucking retard burned out

Who is Pete Davidson and why does he think that Chevy Chase is racist again? And why is this making news?

For those who missed it, Davidson was referring to Chase’s much-talked about parting with the television series Community in 2012, in part over allegations of racist comments and jokes made by Chase towards fellow cast member Donald Glover.
Community cast member Joel McHale talked with Stern last year on HowardTV on demand:
Davidson, who is engaged to pop star Ariana Grande, questioned Chase’s right to criticize considering his own current lackluster career status and went on to admonish Chase for not being respectful of Michaels’ contribution to his career:
What has he done since ’83? Nothing. He had a big career and then it stopped because everybody realized he’s a jerkoff. He should know more than anybody. It’s disrespectful to Lorne, too, a guy who gave you a career. No matter how big you get, you can’t forget what that guy did for you.
In the end, fans were split on which comedian was more irrelevant.
It appears though that the young comedian even won a few new fans to Team Pete Davidson with his comments:
I think I'm a fan of Pete Davidson https://t.co/fnM4WFxLcV

Between calling Trump a dweeb and Chevy Chase a putz, Pete Davidson is quickly becoming my favorite person?
— Hungry on Main (@dtrombino) September 26, 2018
None of the commenters in this thread actually watch SNL, so they don't actually realize Pete Davidson is way funnier than Chevy Chase ever was.

But there were those who were still firmly Team Chevy Chase (even if they did acknowledge his past bad behavior):
Pete is a tool. Not the least bit funny. Nobody will know who he is next year.
— Ozkoz (@Ozkoz) September 25, 2018
Pete Davidson sure gets interviewed a lot for someone who’s not doing anything.

Chevy is a horror show as a person, but Davidson is a non-entity

I had no idea who pete davidson was and still havent heard him tell a joke. That tells me all I need to k ow about Pete. On the other hand. I know who Chevy is!

Chevy has said racist things & has been an a$$hole. But he was also humiliated in front of his family by co-workers. Regardless, Chevy has been more relevant and funnier than Pete will ever be. Caddy Shack! Do I have to say anymore. pic.twitter.com/unYX7g1XP8

And it wasn’t just the current cast Chase criticized. In the Washington Post piece, he pretty much said SNL’s been all downhill since he left:
I’d have to say, that after the first two years, it went downhill. Why am I saying that? Because I was in it? I guess. That’s a horrible thing to say. But certainly I never had more fun. I really loved it and enjoyed it. I didn’t see the same fun thing happening to the cast the next year.
Shhhh . . . don’t anyone tell Davidson or Chase about this tweet from 2017:
Pete Davidson is 2017 Chevy Chase
