Sarah Hyland Opens Up About Private Health Struggles, Second Kidney Transplant In New Interview

Actress Sarah Hyland (Modern Family), who recently took a brief break from social media after negative pushback over a cousin’s crowdfunding campaign, is back and talking about her health issues with Self Magazine.

Although many people already knew about Hyland’s kidney transplant in 2012, from a kidney donated by her father, many were unaware in 2016 her body began to reject that kidney.

Hyland went on to explain:

“I was very depressed. When a family member gives you a second chance at life, and it fails, it almost feels like it’s your fault. It’s not. But it does.”

The actress arranged her shooting schedule around her dialysis and, in 2017, her brother Ian donated another kidney.

He told Self:

“When Sarah first told me that she would need a second transplant, the initial wave of fear was washed over by a sense of resolution. I only cared about Sarah knowing that I had her back and that she was going to be OK. I’m about as stubborn as Sarah once I’ve made up my mind. I probably would have insisted on donating even if I wasn’t a match.”

Many shared their own experiences with dialysis and thanked the actress for speaking out.

We wish Hyland the best of health.
