Jimmy Kimmel has a habit of making people look, well, not so great on camera to wonderful comedic effect. He’s asked people about apologies that they’d issue to their former teachers, how many times they’ve been married, and this past Thursday, he asked people on the street to name any book. No, not a book they’ve read in the last year. He just wanted them to name a book, period.
The results were slightly tragic and hilarious…
As you can see, it didn’t exactly go well.
Some were shocked…
OMG!!! This is shocking!!!

Quite surprising, esp the number of years some of them have gone without reading. Cause Books!

My goodness. Whilst they were thinking, I named over 20 books (including 2 I'm reading now). Ordering & receiving a book is pure joy. Reading a book is akin to going on a great journey. So sad to see so many people unable to name even 1 book.

Wow! I seriously cannot imagine going a day without reading let alone being unable to name a book.

Others called foul on the whole video…
Wow. Many commenters seem to not understand (a) the difference between journalism and satire, and (b) how video editing works.

You could ask me to “name anything” and my anxiety would shut down all words…not a fair study

No. No, we shouldn't shame people for not being able to name a book. They may have been nervous by being interviewed (who isn't). They may have never had the opportunity to find the book to spark their love of reading. Let's not do this. Come on.

The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind is my absolute favorite series ever! If you like fantasy genre you must read it! I'll read anything written by Goodkind after reading it!

We’re going to hope that it was just nerves and selective editing, because the alternative…
