GOP Congresswoman Blames Porn For The Rise In School Shootings

Representative Diane Block offered a new theory to explain the increase in gun violence in recent years.  “Pornography,” she offered at a meeting with local pastors last week in Clarksville, Tennessee.

“Why do we see kids being so violent? What’s out there? What makes them do that?” Black asked. After mentioning pornography, she said, “It’s available on the shelf when you walk in the grocery store. Yeah, you have to reach up to get it, but there’s pornography there. All of this is available without parental guidance. I think that is a big part of the root cause.”

Black did not specify what, exactly, she thinks it is about porn that has led to an increase in violence among the youth in America. She did say, however, that the “deterioration of the family”, mental illness, and violent movies are behind the rise, according to the Huffington Post.

US News reports that a variety of social and economical conditions have led to the violence. “Primary prevention through policies that improve social, cultural, and economic conditions, not to mention reducing access to guns, is far more effective than all the police, doctors and hospitals combined, and intervening only after tragedies have struck,” the outlet states.
