Someone Stole A Giant $4,000 Inflatable Colon—And We Have So Many Questions

A few days ago, the University of Kansas Cancer Center experienced a curious case of theft.

The item stolen was a gigantic inflatable colon — valued at $4,000. Thieves nabbed it from the back of a pickup truck in Kansas City while it was on its way to a local run. The Cancer Coalition ships the gigantic, inflatable colon around the country to educate the public about colon cancer.

A University of Kansas Health System video features Dr. Dan Dixon, the co-leader of the cancer prevention and survivorship program, touring viewers through the model.

John Ashcraft, a surgical oncologist at the KU Cancer Center, spoke about the importance of colon health knowledge.

“Colorectal cancer screening is the most powerful weapon we have against colorectal cancer. Colon cancer is a tough subject for many to talk about and the giant, 150-pound, ten-foot-long inflatable colon is a great conversation starter.”

While the underlying subject matter is serious, people couldn’t help but joke.

Many people are also trying to guess where the inflatable could have gone.

Let’s hope the Cancer Center can locate the colon before things get messy.
