40-Year-Old Woman Got Sick Of Waiting Around For The Perfect Husband—So She Married Herself 💍

Laura Mesi, a 40-year-old Italian fitness instructor, has been waiting her whole life for “Mr. Right” to come along. Well, after four decades of waiting, she decided that, if no man was going to pop up, she could be her own Mr. Right!

Mesi made a pact with herself that if she wasn’t married at 40, she would simply marry herself. And when the big day came, she kept her promise.

Mesi told Italian newspaper La Repubblica:

“I told friends and family that if I had not found my soulmate by my 40th birthday I would marry myself.”

Instead of treating the whole affair as a joke, Mesi went all out for the occasion, spending £8,700 on the standard wedding accouterments: a dress, a three-tiered cake, a ring, and a lovely venue!

All 70 guests wished her well before sipping champagne labeled “Single.” Mesi left for her Egypt honeymoon later that night!

Though the wedding was a success, Mesi admits she might consider divorcing herself if a better option comes along:

“If one day I find a man with whom I can plan a future I’ll be happy, but my happiness does not depend on him. I firmly believe that each of us must first of all love ourselves. You can have a fairytale even without the prince. This is my fairytale wedding – only without a Prince Charming.”

The act of marrying oneself is becoming more and more common in countries like Australia, The Netherlands, and the UK. It even has a name: “sologamy.”

In 2015, British PR consultant Sophie Tanner married herself and told The Telegraph why:

“Everyone celebrates getting together with someone and becoming married, but there’s no milestone in society that celebrates escaping something awful or returning to your own happiness and contentment.”

Congratulations on your nuptials Mrs. and Mrs. Laura Mesi! We’re wishing you both the best as you take this amazing journey together.
