NYC Restaurant Blasts ‘Thank U, Next’ As Pete Davidson Dines—And It’s Just Too Awkward 😮

One especially hard thing about breaking up with a pop star is the likelihood of becoming a subject of future songs.

When comedian Pete Davidson and singer Ariana Grande ended their engagement earlier this fall, Grande almost immediately released the hit song “Thank U, Next,” which speaks about how grateful she is for her ex-boyfriends while also making it clear she’s moving on and wants some time for herself. The song has been near the top of the Billboard 100 since its debut, making it all but inescapable.

This can create some awkward situations for Grande’s exes when they’re out in public…say, on a date in a public restaurant while the song blares in the background.

Twitter users sent their love to Davidson, who could probably do without the reminder of his recent breakup.

Davidson addressed his breakup live on SNL, saying:

“I know some of you are curious about the breakup but the truth is it’s nobody’s business and sometimes things just don’t work out and that’s OK. She’s a wonderful, strong person and I genuinely wish her all the happiness in the world.”

To be fair, Grande has made it clear she broke things off. A scene from the hit music video for “Thank U, Next” shows a notebook in which Grande has written the words “Sry I Dipped,” “Love U Always,” and “HUUUUUUGE” around a photo of Davidson.

Still, the awkwardness of the entire situation had Twitter laughing:

Did the waiters play the song on purpose? Could it have been an accident?

Their split was amicable and Grande has said nothing but good things about her former fiancé, but that doesn’t mean the breakup will be free of drama — real or imagined.

Grande fans seem to think Davidson should have expected situations like this.

Both parties maintain a healthy relationship and mean each other no ill will. Let’s hope Grande fans will feel the same before long!
