Rocco The Hungry Parrot Uses Alexa To Order Snacks While His Owners Are Away 😂

Parrots are fascinating creatures and the African grey parrot is no exception.

The African grey parrot is rather common in captivity, known to live anywhere between 40 and 60 years, and is prized for its ability to mimic human speech. They are highly intelligent and have been known to imitate noises in their surrounding environment, relishing in each of their discoveries.

Take the story of Rocco, for instance.

Rocco, an African grey, made headlines after he was re-homed from the National Animal Welfare Trust sanctuary in Berkshire, U.K. because of his penchant for swearing. His new owner, sanctuary worker Marion Wischnewski, took him to her home in Oxfordshire, where she says the naughty bird got himself into mischief once more after she realized he was using Amazon’s virtual assistant Alexa to order snacks.

According to the BBC:

“The parrot swooped in for some early Christmas shopping – buying watermelons, raisins, broccoli, ice cream, a light bulb and even a kite.

“Unfortunately, those items weren’t on his owner’s Christmas wish list, but are all the things Rocco likes to eat.”

Only the device’s parental lock prevented Rocco from purchasing any of these items!

Wischnewski told reporters:

“Rocco and Alexa chat away to each other all day. Then I have to check the shopping list and cancel all the items he’s ordered.”

Rocco, Wischnewski says, loves Alexa and interacts with the virtual assistant as much as 40 times per day. He’s also mastered a number of household sounds.

“He knows the telephone and can make different mobile ringtones. He can do the microwave or the squeaking door on my fridge. He can do the ice cream van in the summer, and a truck reversing so loud you think it’s in your living room.”

People are certainly impressed.

Live your best life, Rocco.
