A Texas Republican Just Compared Gun Control To The Holocaust In A Mind-Numbing Facebook Post

Earlier this month, gun control advocates placed 7,000 pairs of shoes on the lawn of the U.S. Capitol. The shoes represented the staggering number of children – 7,000 – who have died of gun violence since the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012.

Texas state Rep. Valoree Swanson (R) shared a meme on Facebook that many people consider anti-Semitic. The meme included a picture of the shoes at the Capitol atop another picture: a pile of shoes at a concentration camp. The top image read “Shoes left by supporters of gun control, 2018” and the one below read “Shoes left by victims of gun control, Germany, 1945.” Quoting George Santayana, the bottom of the photo read, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

Some believe Rep. Swanson might be misinformed:

Most people believe sharing the meme was ignorant and disgusting:

Gun control has been one of the most talked about issues in recent months following the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas in Parkland, Florida. One gunman, 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, murdered 17 people with an assault rifle – which hundreds of thousands of people around the country are now fighting to regulate. Students, adults, and public figures have come together to fight for change that hasn’t happened, despite 7,000 children dying as a result of gun violence.

People are demanding action – and they’re preparing for midterm elections:
