Model Seeks To Become The First Trans Woman Of Color To Stomp The Victoria’s Secret Runway

Sometimes positive change is a slow and gradual thing, and other times, it can’t come fast enough. One of those things is equal representation across the board in the world of fashion and modeling, especially for companies that have earned a reputation for sticking to thin white women in the bulk of the shows and campaigns.

Of course, one of those brands is the infamous and somewhat controversial lingerie giant, Victoria’s Secret.

People tune in to the fashion show each year and find that not much has changed: almost all of the angels are rail thin white women. On top of not including more than a couple women of color there has not been a single plus-sized women or transgender woman featured in the show.

But, one model has decided to do all that she can to change. Leyna Bloom is determined to become the first transgender woman of color to earn her angel wings:

She would be the first-ever trans model to walk in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

Bloom recognized the small surge in women of color being cast in the fashion show. But, she also pointed out that most of the lingerie models are still white – and none of them are trans or plus-sized:

With over a hundred thousand followers on Instagram, Leyna has made a name for herself in the world of modeling. She has been featured in some of the most popular publications, like Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Byrdie, and Refinery29, sharing her struggles of being a transgender woman, and going from being homeless to gracing the pages of famous fashion magazines. On top of that, the model and activist has walked in fashion shows for designers like Chromat and The Blonds.

Could that mean that these dreams becoming a reality isn’t all that far-fetched? Her fans seem to think so.

People supported the aspiring model in pursuing this dream – and paving the path for a more inclusive, beautiful future:

And couldn’t help but shower her with compliments because she is beyond captivating:

Twitter can’t seem to stop admiring her ethereal beauty:

Not that anyone can blame them.

Bloom is gorgeous, period:

Victoria, take note.
