Every actor from the cast of Black Panther is haunted by the same specter: that no matter where they go, what they’re doing, or who they’re talking to, people are always asking them to do the crossed-arms “Wakanda Forever” salute.
For many of them, not an interview goes by where they’re not asked to strike the famous pose. At long last, however, Michael B. Jordan, who played the villain Killmonger in the film, had enough.
In an interview with Maude Garrett, she tries to pull the salute out of him, but he’s not having any of it.

Garrett strikes the pose multiple times, hoping Jordan will return her greeting, but he just sits back in his seat and lets her have it:
I ain’t from Wakanda.

He wasn’t lying! Jordan is from Santa Ana, CA and Killmonger is from Oakland, CA. Neither of these places is Wakanda, and neither of these people would want to do the salute.

Meanwhile, Chadwick Boseman, the Black Panther himself, has been having some similar feelings about being asked to do the salute.

People: “Can you do the wakanda forever thing?”

But before we all get too worked up – many clips of the interview cut off before Jordan admits he’s just messing with the interviewer. The whole interview, in fact, was filled with lots of silly banter like this.
Behold, more context:
I'm done with people taking quotes out of context and spreading it on internet. Here's the interview where Michael B Jordan says “I… You ain't from Wakanda” for an interviewer he got along with. The whole video they were messing with each other. Research before posting stuff. pic.twitter.com/NlptdzsWbk

Maude herself weighed in to set the record straight:
A few facts worth mentioning:
– I published the interview 3 MONTHS ago
– it was before the movie came out so didn’t want any spoilers
– as a nerd I LOVED the film
– the clip stops before @michaelb4jordan says he’s messing with me & we laugh. Full vid: https://t.co/G2fK0fBBka

Not that “context” should get in the way of the Internet having a little fun…
