During a live performance last week, members of NOFX made a terrible comment about the Las Vegas shootings that led to the band losing their partnership with Stone Brewing.
Frontman Fat Mike said, “You play a song about Muslims, you’re going to get shot. Alright!” he said. Guitarist Eric Melvin then responded, “Man… I’d say you’re only getting shot in Vegas… if you’re in a country band.” Then Mike came in, saying, “That sucked, Dave,” Mike replied. “But at least they were country fans and not punk rock fans.”
58 people were killed at the shooting in Las Vegas last October, and these comments earned a collective “Ooohhh” from the crowd. On May 31, Vice announced that California beermaker Stone Brewing would be ending their business partnership with NOFX. The beer-making company had been producing Punk in Drublic beer for the band for years.
In a statement to The Blast, Stone Brewing said, “We at Stone Brewing are aware of NOFX’s insensitive and indefensible statements this past weekend. We respect punk rock, and the DIY ethos for which it stands. To us, it means standing up for things you believe in, and fearlessly committing to what’s right. And it is for that reason that Stone Brewing is immediately disassociating ourselves from the band NOFX. Stone had a sponsorship deal for this summer’s Punk In Drublic festivals. Emphasis ‘had.’ That sponsorship is now cancelled.”
