This week, Sara Gilbert revealed that she is on ABC’s side; and stands by their decision to cancel Roseanne. The show was cancelled after her TV mom went on a Twitter rant, tweeting tasteless comments about former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett.
Speaking on The Talk, Gilbert said:
“In addition to my statement, I would like to say this has been a very difficult week. A lot of people have been hurt by this. I will say, I’m proud of the show we made.”
“The show has always been about diversity, love and inclusion, and it’s sad to see it end in this way. I’m sad for the people who lost their jobs in the process. However, I do stand behind the decision that ABC made.”
Gilbert’s co-hosts supported her, with Sheryl Underwood saying:
“I’m really glad to hear you say that, because as a black woman who is a comedian, I’m very very proud of Channing Dungey, the president of ABC Entertainment. And as Spike Lee says, a lot of people came together to do the right thing, and I’m happy to see that it was done swiftly. “
The most recent rumors about the show suggest that it may be rebooted without its namesake.
Earlier this week, TMZ reported that sources are saying that ABC is “exploring” the possibility of having a show that centers on Darlene instead of Roseanne. “We’re told Sara’s been calling cast members to gauge their interest in the event ABC gives the reboot the green light. We’re told John Goodman is ‘very interested.'”
Some cheered Gilbert on, hoping Roseanne-free reboot will come to fruition:

I’ve never seen Roseanne before. But if they reboot it focusing on Sara Gilbert, I’ll definitely be giving it a chance. We need to support people that stand up for what is right

@THEsaragilbert Hi! Ur remarks on #TheView a ,you grown up to be a wonderful, thoughtful human being. Didn’t watch the new #Roseanne show cause of Roseanne, but knew u/others had no hate in ur heart like she has. If there’s a new show, same cast,no Roseanne,I’ll watch. ✌

Some agreed with Gilbert and felt quite disappointed by Roseanne:
I understand. And actually agree with you on Roseanne’s behavior. That’s on her doing. Not the Network and certainly not Sara’s. Roseanne tanked it for everybody and deeply hurt her co workers. Not to mention us disappointed fans of the show.

I support Sara Roseanne disappointed me.

Others feel Gilbert betrayed Roseanne and continue to stand by the comedian:

@therealroseanne Sara Gilbert is a turncoat. Why doesn’t she shut her mouth. I’,m sure she isn’t perfect and has said things wrong. I”m tired of the pious that make people outcasts. Sara look at you first.

I’m sure Roseanne has been disappointed in you too.She probably wouldn’t have turned tail and run like you did. She made a mistake she didnt know she was black.

Maybe more people should adopt DJ Rocking Ray’s perspective:
@THEsaragilbert I am very proud of you saying what you need to say on Monday’s 6/4/18 The talk and sending Love and Support to you and everyone else who was innocently affected with the cancellation of the show!
