‘Chief Knowledge Officer’ Of Crossfit Fired Over Homophobic Twitter Post And Their CEO Didn’t Hold Back

Russell Berger used to hold a high position in the CrossFit corporation until he sent out a homophobic tweet and got himself fired. Considering his position was Chief Knowledge Officer, one has to wonder if he was ever qualified for the job.

In the tweet Berger supported a CrossFit gym cancelling a LGBT pride event by saying:

As someone who personally believes celebrating ‘pride’ is a sin, I’d like to personally encourage #CrossFitInfiltrate for standing by their convictions and refusing to host an @indypride workout. The intolerance of the LGBTQ ideology toward any alternative views is mind-blowing.

After cancelling the event the CrossFit gym in Indianapolis, Indiana lost a number of employees and coaches who quit in protest. Soon after the gym announced it was shutting down. Berger’s support of the gym, sent him packing from the company as well. First he was placed on unpaid leave and then later fired. CrossFit Inc. released a statement saying:

The statements made today by Russell Berger do not reflect the views of CrossFit Inc. For this reason, his employment with CrossFit has been terminated.

But CrossFit founder and CEO Greg Glassman wasn’t done yet. He went on to tell Buzzfeed News that:

I am crazy proud of the gay community in CrossFit. He needs to take a big dose of ‘shut the fuck up’ and hide out for awhile. It’s sad. We do so much good work with such pure hearts — to have some zealot in his off-time do something this stupid, we’re all upset. The whole company is upset. This changes his standing with us. What that looks like, I don’t know. It’s so unfortunate.
