Reports are coming out about abuses against children in the detention centers. Reveal News, in an extensive report claims many children are subjected to handcuffs, assaults, and given antipsychotics and sedatives while being told they are vitamins.
In the report, Holly Cooper, a lawyer challenging the government’s incarceration of children says:
There seems to be a level of cruel intent I’ve never seen before and a real indifference to the well-being of a child.
Gov. Ralph Northam of Virginia has now ordered an investigation into abuse claims at the Shenandoah Valley Juvenile Center where children are reportedly being beaten, handcuffed and left in cells for extended periods of time for solitary confinement. The children are often left nude and cold in isolated cells.
The report also claims that and adult saw broken bones and bruises that the children said were inflicted by the guards.
Many of the teens being held, have been accused of belonging to gangs by the U.S. Immigration authorities a reason Donald Trump has cited as justification for implementing his no tolerance policy.
Now that the public is becoming more aware of these atrocities, Virginia’s senators said Thursday they would investigate conditions inside the Shenandoah facility.
