After Thailand, Elon Musk Sets His Philanthropic Sights On Flint, Michigan

Billionaire Elon Musk, who offered up a miniature submarine to rescue the soccer team trapped in a flooded cave in Thailand, responded to a question on Twitter about the Flint, Michigan water crisis. Musk said he was willing to help fund a solution.

Flint long ago fell into an economic depression, along with Detroit, after the collapse of the auto industry. Flint was dealt another blow in recent years when it was found the city used lead pipes for its water system.

Rick Snyder, Michigan’s governor, recently stopped Flint’s free bottled water program, but citizens still do not trust the water’s safety, considering the city continues to use lead pipes.

Now, Musk is saying on Twitter that he will fund water filters for anyone who needs one.

This tweet from Baby D set the plan in motion.

Musk responded with this pledge:

The mayor of Flint, Karen Weaver, got the ball rolling.

There was some sound advice from this expert.

People were enthusiastic about Musk helping.

While others weren’t so sure.

Let’s hope he follows through for the people of Flint.
