Pat McGrath Is The Makeup Industry’s Newest Self-Made Billionaire–And She Did It In Two Years

According to WWD, beauty guru to the fashionistas Pat McGrath has built her cosmetic company, Pat McGrath Labs, into an estimated $1 billion empire after recently closing a $60 million deal with investment firm Eurazeo Brands. McGrath has taken her two-year-old company into the stratosphere, outpacing projections for Kylie Jenner’s Kylie Cosmetics, which Forbes recently estimated at about $800 million.

Born in Northampton, UK, McGrath launched her brand in 2016 after becoming a mainstay in the fashion industry, creating some of the most iconic looks on the runway.

According to HuffPost, she has been called:

…the most influential makeup artist in the world by Anna Wintour and was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire for services to the fashion and beauty industry by Queen Elizabeth II.

Pat McGrath Labs was a success right out of the gate, becoming a full-fledged hit at Sephora stores.

People were quick to congratulate her—and throw a little shade:

The Forbes cover story projected Jenner would hit the “self-made” billionaire mark soon, but she was soon eclipsed by McGrath’s success.

And people had questions:

Some wished the two women’s names were never even mentioned together:

It may be worth noting that Forbes predicted Jenner, 20, would be the “youngest self-made billionaire ever, male or female, trumping Mark Zuckerberg, who became a billionaire at age 23,” something for which McGrath, 48, wasn’t in the running. McGrath’s win comes after years of paying her dues in the fashion industry.

Many people wanted to celebrate both women’s accomplishments:

But today is about McGrath’s accomplishments. Let’s celebrate her win and congratulate her on a job well done, shall we? #WomanPower
