Fatherhood is already a tough job but some people really set a heckuva standard for the rest of us to chase.
Ricky Smith is a doting dad to his daughter Nevaeha, and when she found the perfect dress for her eighth-grade prom, the family was a little put off by the $200 price tag. Smith already worked three jobs, six days a week, to try to make ends meet, and a fancy dress just wasn’t reasonable. So when it came time to present Nevaeha with another dress from her grandma, and it “wasn’t the dress you wanted, but I hope you like it,” her mom Kelly Anne had the bright idea to record it. And it was the dress Nevaeha wanted after all.
Pretty sweet. Ricky decided to work his three jobs seven days a week in order to afford the modest indulgence for his baby girl. Nobody should ever have to work that schedule just to treat their daughter to something a little nice but, until we have a better kind of social system in place, Ricky is here to show us the meaning of sacrifice. And yeah, there’s a photo of Nevaeha with the dress.
The video went viral, racking up twelve million views, and caught the attention of the major networks. Nevaeha told ABC News that she’s “really happy that he’s my father.”
Smith said his hustle was worth it. “To see the look on her face it was priceless,” he said. “All I can really do was smile.”
The rest of the internet applauded the lengths he went to make her happy.
Omg her thankfulness is so beautiful . What a dad! I love them
