Illinois GOP Lawmaker Resigns After Ex-Girlfriend Discovers What He Was Doing With Her Nude Photos 😮

Until very recently, Illinois’ 51st District was represented by Republican Nick Sauer, who was campaigning for re-election when his ex-girlfriend discovered one of Sauer’s less attractive hobbies compulsions: catfishing dudes on Instagram with nude photos—of her.

This is a “values voter” conservative on the Illinois State House Sexual Discrimination and Harassment Task Force using his ex’s photos to trick guys into having sexy conversations on Instagram. According to the victim, Kate Kelly, Sauer used the nudes without her knowledge “to catfish other men using my privately shared naked photos. Nick would use this account to direct message men with my photos to engage in graphic conversations of a sexual nature. The men believed they were communicating with me and Nick shared private details of my life.”

Revenge porn and catfishing. It’s a psychologist’s smorgasbord.

Politico broke the story Wednesday morning. Kelly had dated Sauer since 2016, even moving to Chicago to be closer to him. Then, in March, she discovered that he was sleeping around and subsequently dumped him. Fast forward to June, when she received a message from a total stranger who claimed to have  “been communicating for 4 months with someone pretending” to be her. She contacted Instagram, who closed the bogus account, and confronted Sauer.

Kelly reportedly wrote in a complaint to the Office of the Legislative Inspector General:

He came to my house & confessed to catfishing men with my photos for 2 years to at least 8 men. He was unable to provide the names and begged that I let it go.

Sauer must have known this was coming. Mere hours after the Politico story broke, he resigned.

Staff quickly vacated his offices, including one person who must have been the absolute coolest.

It is a felony in Illinois to use another person’s “private sexual images” without their consent, but no charges have yet been filed.

No motive has yet been established, other than this guy being a colossal creep with serious issues.

Republican state legislators were quick to elbow him off the team.

GOP Governor Bruce Rauner said early Wednesday:

He should resign.

And then he did.

It should go without saying, but don’t do this at home, folks.
