Sarah Hyland Calls Out Trolls For ‘Skinny-Shaming’ Her In Instagram Post

Modern Family and Geek Charming star Sarah Hyland has had a variety of medical issues her entire life, including kidney dysplasia, receiving a kidney transplant from her father in 2012, and ten surgeries plus anti-rejection medications and doctor ordered bedrest off and on.  Because of this, Hyland has a serious difficulty gaining weight.

In fact, Hyland was weighing in at a mere 75 lbs just earlier this year.

This past Wednesday, Sarah Hyland took to her Instagram story to address her direct messages, which were reportedly full of people shaming her weight and telling her to “eat some bread.”

” I’ve been reading some of your DMs and so many of you are like, ‘girl, you fine but like, eat some bread, so I would like to put in a request for anyone who is concerned about my bread consumption to send to [my boyfriend] Wells Adams, because he is the sole person who knows about how much bread I consume on a daily basis.”

Adams confirmed via his own Instagram story that Hyland was indeed, a “carbivore”:

Hyland has faced ugly comments about her weight in the past, with some even accusing her of being anorexic.  She addressed said comments as such, according to Insider:

“My circumstances have put me in a place where I’m not in control of what my body looks like, so I strive to be as healthy as possible, as everyone should.”

Hyland’s story has a lot of support behind it from the internet.

But Hyland’s struggle is not hers alone.  Other thin celebrities continue to be harassed and attacked on the internet for their weight.

It seems like a double standard where nobody can win.  It is neither acceptable to be too large or too small.  And while fat shaming is the more outspoken and ugly version of what we are seeing here, they are both symptoms of the problem of women’s body image as promoted by society.

Perhaps the world will one day right itself.
