Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie wig from the 2017 Marvel movie Thor: Ragnarok carried a shockingly hefty price tag, and fans are weighing in on it.
In the summer of 2017, the 34-year-old actress was shooting director Boots Riley’s surreal dark comedy Sorry to Bother You while simultaneously filming reshoots for Thor: Ragnarok on the weekends. Because the two roles required completely different hair styles (short, orange ringlets for one and long, dark, straight hair for the other) Disney decided a wig was necessary to facilitate the process.
According to Riley in an article on HuffPost, the superhero hairpiece cost—brace yourself—$10,000.

According to Riley, Marvel’s parent company was none too happy about the expense despite the $180 million budget for Ragnarok. At one point Riley even apologized to the blockbuster’s director, Taika Waititi, who reportedly shrugged it off. Riley said, “He was like, ‘It’s not my money!’”
