Beauty, fashion, and health and fitness vlogger Karissa Pukas has been glamming it up for us for the past eight years on YouTube but her latest video is not very glamorous at all.
Published July 28, “The Truth About Breast Implants” is best summed up in its caption:
My breast implants were making me chronically sick – here is my story.
Karissa Pukas says she experienced fatigue, diarrhea, and skin issues after her 2014 breast augmentation. https://t.co/p1u97DDJYP

In the nearly 45-minute video, Pukas pieces together four years’ worth of on-camera confessions about her health struggles, detailing her process and the realization that her implants were to blame.
Pukas underwent breast augmentation in 2014, a timeline that became the marker for the onset of her mysterious and seemingly unrelated health issues.
She details symptoms such as foggy memory, acne, diarrhea, and more since 2014.
I’ve had on and off blurry vision and I feel like I’m an old woman. I have hip pain, back pain and digestive issues. I don’t understand why I feel so old and debilitated at 26 years old.

As her story started to take off on social media, Pukas was thankful for the help in getting the word out to other women who may be struggling with some of the same issues.
She gave them a shout-out for their support:
Hi guys! Thanks for sharing my story pic.twitter.com/uAXFPR5axA

Fans were grateful to Pukas for sharing her story.
Some who planned to get implants said Pukas’ confession changed their minds:
Many cheered Pukas for pushing for an answer to her health concerns.
Some pointed to the medical community’s failure to take women’s complaints seriously:
Can we PLEASE start listening to women? It is not absurd that women start having these side affects, especially after a foreign object is inserted into the body.

I think the most important thing women should take away from these stories are to always listen to your body and your gut instincts. No matter how good a dr or all of them may be, you're the only one that can feel what's going on in your body.

Karissa Pukas uploaded a video on her experience with Breast Implant Illness (which isn’t even recognized even though women have had the exact same horrific symptoms) and it’s honestly so scary. If you or anyone you know is considering breast implants pls go watch.

Though warnings regarding complications from breast implants have often focused on leaking (rupture), hardening (capsular contracture), or displacement of implants, there is a mounting body of evidence that has experts concerned about texturized implants like the ones Pukas describes in her video.
