A member of the Baltimore Police Department has been suspended after a video of him hitting a man, posted by activist Deray McKesson yesterday, went viral…
TW: Police Violence
This is a video of the @BaltimorePolice reported to be from earlier today.
— deray (@deray) August 11, 2018
The clip shows a man being hit repeatedly. Finally, at the end, he is left bleeding on the sidewalk.
The Interim Baltimore Police Department Commissioner, Gary Tuggle, made this statement about the video…

The statement reads…
“I’m deeply disturbed by the video that surfaced online earlier today. The officer involved has been suspended while we investigate the totality of this incident. Part of our investigation will be reviewing body worn camera footage. If anyone witnessed this incident we are asking you to contact the Office of Professional Responsibility at 410-396-2300 or visit the following website: https//baltimorepolice.org/transparency/citizen-complaints.
Interim Police Commissioner
Baltimore Police Department”
People were shocked…
I just cant think of any explanation that would make this OK. Being able to exercise restraint is part of the oath you to take to serve and protect.

Exactly! We don’t know what the victim did let’s pretend he stole 5 million dollars, or a baby, or whatever, no matter what why is repeatedly punching a man acceptable. That won’t subdue him. You are abusing someone who is innocent, and if guilty shouldn’t be punched repeatedly

Poor guy. These “officers” work for us to protect our communities. As citizens we have a right to dictate how our employees behave. I for one want this individual fired and an apology to this man and his community. Absolute disgrace. This police culture needs to change, no debate

Unacceptable. Out of control. I keep wondering if steroid use/abuse is a problem w/in police community. The rage is just unhinged.

Others felt that the officer’s suspension didn’t go far enough…
This officer need to be fired!
— Kaspar#3 (@KasparDreal) August 12, 2018
He was sent to the hospital for his injuries and no charges were filed!

Clean up your house.

And many hoped the victim of the attack was okay…
At the end of the video, he’s on the ground with two officers holding him down and it looks like he’s bleeding on the sidewalk Why?
— Katie (@KatieYunker) August 11, 2018
My heart is broken for him and his family. I hope he’s OK…He was shaking at the end of the video. This should never happen to anyone
— Katie (@KatieYunker) August 12, 2018
But most had harsh words for the police…
Stop police brutality that all

Please Baltimore police tell me whatever this young man did was justifiable to be punched like this. If he defends himself then is assaulting an officer. I hope he’s already been fired and charged . THIS IS NOT WHAT PROTECT AND SERVE MEAN
— oz miranda (@Giantniner1) August 12, 2018
I love the reaction of the other cop, like “Really? Why?” Then he bumbles around, first almost pulling on his partner, then almost helping hold the guys legs, but being completely ineffectual at both.
— instantkarmaraven (@instantkarma23) August 12, 2018
That’s despicable. I am deeply angered and this “officer” will reap what he sows

The officer is yet to be identified.
