Tequila Helps George Clooney Become Hollywood’s Highest Paid Actor

George Clooney wasn’t even in a movie this year, but he somehow tops the Forbes list of highest paid actors. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was in pretty much everything and is sitting over $100 million behind Clooney in second place. How is that even possible?

The thing is, Clooney didn’t intend to develop a billion-dollar tequila brand. The idea for making his own tequila happened while hanging out with friends in Mexico. After trying tons of brands of tequila, Clooney and a few friends decided to just make one that was perfect for them. They jokingly called it Casamigos — a name they had used for their houses on a shared plot of land.

Rande Gerber — one of those friends — described the perfect tequila they were looking for:

We wanted one that didn’t burn going down, that was super smooth, and had the right flavor profile. One that we didn’t have to mix — typically we drink it straight or on the rocks — that we could drink all day long and not be hungover in the morning.

The tequila was popular with friends, friends of friends, and before long the distillery had to tell them they were ordering too much and would need to get licensed. Clooney and crew shrugged and went for it. They had their perfect tequila, no way they were giving it up. They found a distributor willing to get on board and just like that, a quest for good tequila among friends turned into a successful in-demand brand. This year, the brand sold for a billion dollars.

Meanwhile, Clooney is just chillin’ with his friends like…

He’s given away a huge cut of his money, which isn’t uncommon for him. He’s given 14 of his friends $1 million each. He donated “significant” amounts of money to the March For Our Lives and to helping migrant children. “Significant” in Clooney-money is an amount most of us wouldn’t come close to even if we saved every penny we earned for life.

Twitter is zero percent shocked by the story — but questions if this money should count towards being a high paid “actor.”

What do you think? George’s business success and charitable nature are admirable — but should it put him at the top of this list or should Dwayne Johnson be wearing this year’s crown?

Sound off!
