Tony Hawk is a world renowned skateboarder. He has won competitions from Florida to Washington to Germany. He’s considered by many to be the most influential skateboarder around, and has even leant his namesake to a video game series entitled Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. But, despite all this acclaim, apparently Hawk’s isn’t the most recognizable face.
As Hawk himself has repeatedly documented on Twitter:
TSA agent (staring intently): I’m trying to figure out who you look like before checking your ID.
TSA: that cyclist Armstrong!
Nearby agent: that ain’t Lance Armstrong
Me: he’s right
TSA: oh you look like that skateboarder (checks ID). Same last name too! Crazy!

Woman at airport: “My husband told me you're an awesome something something. Are you?” Me: “Yes, in fact it's the title on my business card”

TSA agent (checking my ID): “Hawk, like that skateboarder Tony Hawk!”
Her: “Cool, I wonder what he's up to these days”

Woman on plane: “You look like Tony Hawk!” Me: Is that good? Her: “Well… he's that skateboard guy.” <== insert response here, I had none.

As well as these awkward encounters…
girl at restaurant: “Are you Tony Hawk?” me: “Yes.” her: “Why?” I had no idea how to answer.

Ticket agent: “Anthony Frank Hawk, are you related to the skateboarder?” Yes, that's me. “Well he doesn't normally go by Anthony Frank.”

Hawk is probably the only person in entertainment worth an estimated 120 million who isn’t immediately recognizable.
But it does appear that this is a trend in his life…

Maybe the TSA will recognize him now that this story has gone viral.
