Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Response To A Man Battling Depression Has Fans Getting Emotional

Arnold Schwarzenegger has worn many hats throughout his career. Mr. Universe? Check. Successful actor? Check. Governor of the state of California? Check.

Did you know he’s also a near constant presence on Reddit under the username u/GovSchwarzenegger, where he interacts with fans on a regular basis? He is, and his interaction with one fan on the “front page of the internet” is giving everyone the feels.

Ali, who hails from Canada, has been suffering from depression, as millions do. The stigma around mental illness is real, so reaching out for help can be daunting. Any effort to connect and speak honestly about your feelings is to be applauded.

Ali decided to reach out to Schwarzenegger.

To Ali’s surprise, Schwarzenegger responded.

Ali told Bored Panda:

When I saw Arnold’s first message I was immediately uplifted. And I mean immediately! By the time I came back from the gym people were already so happy in the comments and sharing their own experiences. The story wasn’t about me anymore, it was about the explosion of inspiration that Arnold’s words caused in his post.

It didn’t end there. The next day, the former Governor decided to check up on him.

Ali was shocked that he got a follow-up, telling Bored Panda:

I went to sleep that night feeling like a million bucks, knowing I had had an amazing day. Waking up the next day to see Arnold checking in on me still gives me goosebumps just thinking about it! Saying he was proud of me for having gone to the gym and asking how it went, it definitely felt unreal once again.

Naturally, he responded to Schwarzenegger.

Many gave Schwarzenegger major credit.

Others found inspiration.

And, of course, people couldn’t resist a good Terminator joke.

Which prompted this great response from Ali…

Exercise is always a great tool to help alleviate depression. There’s no shame in asking for help, or trying whatever it takes to break out of the depression cycle, whether through medication, therapy, exercise, or all of the above!
