Ivanka Trump Tried To Celebrate Women’s Equality Day—And Twitter Was Having None Of It

August 26, 1920 marks the day the 19th Amendment was added to the US Constitution. This amendment made it illegal to ban a citizen the right to vote based on sex, meaning women, who previously didn’t have the right to vote, now could. On August 26, 2018, Ivanka Trump attempted to tweet her support:

But given her father and his supporters’ open hostility toward women’s rights, including a brief surge of the hashtag #RepealThe19th during the 2016 election, the tweet comes off as rather tone deaf.

Donald Trump’s closest company seems at odds with itself. Ivanka Trump has also expressed her support for the LGBTQ+ community, a community that Trump’s running mate Mike Pence has continuously voted against and repressed as governor of Indiana.

Ivanka could have been a powerfully influential mouthpiece, speaking out for her beliefs, but instead she refuses to speak against  her father’s destructive policies.

And quite frankly, the American people can see through it.

The clock is ticking down on President Trump’s first term in office.  Trump’s entire family has been complicit in his poor conduct and destructive policies—we shall see what happens to all of them after the second election.
