An article in The London Times titled “I’ll tell you what’s wrong with midlife sex – the telly” has left Twitter in stitches because of its meme-worthy tease.
The article by Carol Midgley blames a disappointing sex life on excessive TV watching. Both in the article and in the Twitter tease and link to the piece, the phrase “sweep the special chimney” appears, presumably, as a euphemism for the act of coitus itself.

We’re not sure if this is a well-known metaphor for sex in the UK but, here in the U.S., it’s rather odd and utterly hysterical.
Some people drew parallels between the phrase and a beloved movie character and her good friend Bert:
Mary Poppins is now very different.

Oh, I don't know. Our sex life has greatly improved since my husband suggested we role play as Mary Poppins & Bert The Chimney Sweep. I can't get enough of his mockney accent & a spoonful of sugar really does help the “medicine” go down. Nudge-nudge, wink-wink.

And, of course, it wouldn’t be viral without the boyfriend meme making an appearance:

But some people knew exactly what Midgley meant…
Sweep the special chimney
Load the magic washing machine
Scrub the mystic kettle
Clean the sensual oven
Mop the lovely hallway https://t.co/OKNFgY3Uq4
