In his campaign for re-election to represent Texas in the Senate, Ted Cruz is having a much more uphill battle than expected.
And nowadays, of course, nothing turns around a flagging political race like
calmly and cogently presenting your alternative ideas for the future of your constituency digging up unflattering photos of your opponent.
So the Texas GOP dug into the background of Cruz’s opponent, Beto O’Rourke, and hit what they thought was pay dirt:
an embarrassing photo of O’Rourke in a 1990s post-hardcore band, as well as his DUI mugshot from two decades ago.
There's always the chance that Robert “Beto” O’Rourke won’t debate Senator Cruz because he got into a hazy situation… pic.twitter.com/4nmd42AEkl

Consider yourselves owned, libs!
But this epic take-down doesn’t seem to have gone quite as expected, as the Internet seemed to collectively swoon at these pics of the Democratic nominee.
Wow, O’Rourke had that smoldering bad boy thing going. I like him even more now.

Any chance you have a picture of him shirtless holding an armful of puppies in your oppo files? Maybe one of him loading a dishwasher? You should release them asap. To own the libs.

Did not know Beto was so SEXY

#GoBetoGo. He even manages to look cool in a mug shot after having a few too many drinks. Really, Texas GOP, you have a reptile on your side, good luck.

Wonderful! ❤️❤️ Yet another reason to donate to @BetoORourke

Not to mention the fact that when they started digging into Cruz’s embarrassing photos, they hit paydirt:
a photo of Cruz dressed as a mime!
And what with the Internet being the Internet…
It became ever more ridiculous…
Having a DUI gives a candidate something to answer for in a political campaign. But what’s that saying? People who live in glass houses full of mimes shouldn’t throw memes? I’m paraphrasing here.
Seems like some good advice for the Texas GOP:
This sure backfired on you. Get a new social media director.
