Former ‘ER’ Actress Shot And Killed After Pointing Gun At Police During Welfare Check

Vanessa Marquez was best known for playing the role of Nurse Wendy Goldman on ER from 1994-1997. Now, she’s been on our minds again because of a tragic circumstance. The 49-year-old actress was the subject of a welfare check by the South Pasadena Police Department. Her landlord had called the police and told them she had been having seizures and was gravely disabled.  However, when they arrived, the police allege she grew increasingly uncooperative, and that she eventually grabbed a handgun.

A statement from the South Pasadena Police Department Lt. Joe Mendoza reads…

“At the time [of the shooting] there was an LA County mental health clinician here with the officers,” Mendoza said. “They began to communicate with her, she became very uncooperative and during that contact she armed herself with a handgun, she pointed it at the officers and an officer-involved shooting occurred.”

She was shot in the torso and later pronounced dead at the hospital. After the fact, the handgun was discovered to have only been a BB gun.

Marquez had recently come back into the public eye when she accused ER co-star George Clooney for helping blacklist her after she spoke out against sexual harassment on set…

“Clooney helped blacklist me when I spoke up abt harassment on ER. Women who dont play the game lose career. I did.”

Her Twitter account has since been disabled.

People had harsh criticism for the police…

Others felt that regardless of whether or not it was a BB gun, it was still justified…

While others pushed back hard at that idea…

Many were in shock…

But most just offered their condolences…

Our thoughts are with Marquez’s family.
