If you think you’ve got all the answers about Poe Dameron’s love life, guess again!
The Star Wars character simply refuses to be tied down, according to the actor who portrays him, Oscar Isaac. Isaac recently chatted with HuffPost on the set of his next film, Operation Finale, about his beloved Star Wars character and the mountain of speculation about his romantic life that constantly ripples through the films’ fan community.
As authority on all things sci-fi and “nerd culture” io9 recently pointed out, Pablo Hidalgo’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi ― The Visual Dictionary, the official guidebook to the film, states that Poe’s character wears a ring that belonged to his mother, which he’s “waiting to share… someday with the right partner.”
That one word—the gender-neutral “partner”—has ignited waves of theories about who Poe carries a torch for. Fans’ top choice for Poe’s love interest seems to be Finn, played by John Boyega. They’ve even dubbed the pair FinnPoe.
And if Google is any indicator, there seems to be plenty of reason to believe the pairing is for real!
And as for Isaac? He’s playing it coy.
When HuffPost asked about his Poe’s ring and the term “partner,” Isaac said:
I’m all about keeping it as fluid as possible. There are a lot of interesting people in the galaxy, it’d be a shame to cut off 50 percent. I think Poe’s open to any kind of adventure.
But as much as the internet wants it to be true, the other half of this couple, John Boyega, doesn’t seem so sure—especially given his character’s feelings for Daisy Ridley’s characyer, Rey, and his kiss with Kelly Marie Tran’s character, Rose Tico.
Boyega told HuffPost:
I don’t know if that’s going to happen. I mean, just so many [love interests]. They need to all leave me alone, man. I’m trying to just be handsome and sexy on my own, and they’re interrupting.
But the internet remains unconvinced:
Fans are holding out hope for these two crazy kids to find love:
Some even took the theory a few steps further:
Mostly, people are loving the open-mindedness surrounding these two characters:
Even if Poe and Finn don’t end up together, these fans might be onto something:
The heart wants what it wants. We’ll call this progress!
