Burt Reynolds and Sally Field were easily one of Hollywood’s most beloved pairings — both on and off screen. They starred in four films together, dated for over four years, and maintained a friendship that lasted over four decades. Reynolds quite openly called Sally his “one that got away,” sometimes lamenting the way he hurt her to the media. Sally was always more tight-lipped about the subject of Burt, but she did open up to People after his passing to share some heartfelt words.
Her statement was simple and warm, like the actress herself.
There are times in your life that are so indelible, they never fade away. They stay alive, even forty years later. My years with Burt never leave my mind. He will be in my history and my heart, for as long as I live. Rest, Buddy.
Twitter was moved by her statement.
