We all know the old wedding saying: “Something old. Something new. Something borrowed. Something blue.” For many brides, the “something old tends to be sentimental. Often it’s an old family heirloom or something equally meaningful. But now-Countess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, decided that she would make her “something blue” just as sweet.
It turns out she had a small piece of blue fabric sewn into her veil that was of particular significance…
“It’s my something blue. It’s fabric from the dress I wore on our first date.”
The comments were made in an upcoming documentary entitled Queen of the World about Queen Elizabeth II, which will air on ITV in the U.K. and HBO in the United States on October 1st.
In the interview with the Duchess of Sussex, she revealed that she also included 53 embroidered flowers on her veil representing each of the Commonwealth countries that were former territories of the British Empire, saying…
“It was important for me, especially now being a part of the royal family, to have all 53 of the Commonwealth countries incorporated. I knew it would be a fun surprise for my now husband. He was really over the moon.”
Her “something borrowed” was just as nostalgic. According to Huffington Post…
“Queen Elizabeth loaned her Queen Mary’s diamond tiara, made in 1932, which held Markle’s veil in place.”
A clip of the “something blue” part of the interview can be seen below…
