Chelsea Peretti’s Recent Tweets Have ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Fans Totally Bummed ????

First, it was cancelled, then (a day later!) they were back with an expanded episode order—but now we learn, it will be with much less Gina . . . What’s a Brooklyn 99 (B99) fan to do?

This devastating blow comes from Gina herself—actress/comedian Chelsea Peretti (who plays the role of the acerbic Gina Linetti on the cop comedy) took to Twitter Wednesday morning to dash all our dreams, tweeting:

 . . . I won’t be doing a full season of Brooklyn 99 in Season 6.

But hinted heavily that her character is expected to return down the road:

But that doesn’t mean I won’t ever be back, winky face emoji, heart emoji.

But Peretti wasn’t done yet, sending out a follow-up tweet that played off of Emmy Rossum’s recent letter to fans announcing her departure from Shameless saying:

Perhaps Emmy Rossum said it best when she wrote about Shameless (I bolded the extra relevant parts in her quote below).

Many Brooklyn 99 fans were grateful for what they got and thanked Peretti for the laughs:

Even though Peretti will still be a part of the season, B99 fans were seriously bummed:

Co-creator Dan Goor got in on the B99 nostalgia train in a statement on Twitter:

From the moment Mike Schur and I decided to create this show, we wanted Chelsea Peretti be a part of it, and she always will be. While it’s sad to see a member of the family leave, we are so proud of Chelsea and excited for what she does next. Also, I know for a fact this isn’t the last we’ll see of Gina Linetti.

Diehard B99 fans responded to Goor like:

NBC has not yet announced the release date for Brooklyn 99’s 6th season but according to Deadline it’s expected to premiere midseason 2018-2019.
