New Study Shows We’re One Step Closer To ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ And Even Margaret Atwood Is Worried ????

A new study shows that men’s infertility rates are increasing at an alarming rate, further paving the way for a Handmaid’s Tale future.

And even Margaret Atwood, the author of the dystopian novel, is expressing concern:

According to the Daily Mail, researches looked at semen samples from men undergoing infertility treatment in two major fertility centers in the U.S. and Spain between 2002-2017 and found that the number of men in the cohort increased seven-fold from 8,000 to 60,000.

The study also revealed the following:

  • An increasing number of men had a total motile sperm count so low they may require IVF in order to conceive
  • The number of men with a normal sperm count dropped
  • Lead researcher Dr. Ashley Tiegs said the drop in sperm quality may be caused by unhealthy lifestyles and exposure to plastics

In the midst of the #MeToo movement, many Twitter users don’t view men’s plummeting sperm count as “bad news”:

Some just saw it as Mother Nature in action:

Though some commenters seemed genuinely disturbed by the findings:
