Tituss Burgess Is Hosting A ‘Pride Flight’ On Virgin Airlines, Complete With An All-LGBT Crew ❤️

Mark your calenders, book your tickets, and get ready to climb aboard what promises to be the fiercest flight in the friendly skies.

On Tuesday, Virgin Atlantic announced the first ever “Pride Flight”, a one-off trip from London to New York staffed entirely by LGBT+ pilots and cabin crew, set to arrive in New York just in time for World Pride 2019.

In celebration of queer culture, the six-hour flight won’t be your typical trip from point A to point B. Along with live performances and special guests appearances, the flight will include a DJ, Judy Garland singalong, on-board speed dating, and Drag Queen Bingo.

All the festivities will be hosted by Broadway musical actor and star of Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Tituss Burgess.

According to Burgess, now more than ever, is the time for celebrations like Pride Flight.

“At a time when we’re seeing the rights of minority groups under threat, it is more important than ever  we stand up and make our voices heard.”

“The  LGBT community has made enormous strides over the last 50 years, and  I’m so proud to partner with Virgin Holidays and Virgin Atlantic to mark this occasion in style and celebrate the hard-won freedoms from those who came before us.”

And the occasion that Pride Flight celebrates is a doubly important one for the LGBTQ community.

Pride events around the world are often held in June in commemoration of the June 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York City, a watershed moment in LGBTQ history. This year marks the 50th anniversary.

In addition, it will be the first time New York plays host to World Pride, an internationally organized event that celebrates Pride for countries where homosexuality is still repressed or illegal.

The joint celebrations promise to make it a once in a lifetime event which city officials expect will draw more than three million visitors.

Virgin has also partnered with NYC & Company, the city’s official marketing organization, for the event.

“Through our partnership with Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Holidays we’re delighted to invite UK LGBTQ travelers and allies to New York City to be a part of these historic events,” said Fred Dixon, President and CEO of NYC & Company.

“As a City founded on diversity, inclusivity and a welcoming  spirit, we’re extremely pleased to host World Pride 2019 — the first  time the big event will be held in the United States, while at the same  time marking the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising.”

And for passengers making their way to World Pride 2019 on Pride Flight, Virgin assures them it will be a “one-of-a-kind experience.”

“We‰Ûªre not the type of company to mark an occasion like this  half-heartedly and we’re going to be pulling out all the stops to ensure the Pride Flight is delivered with a large serving of Virgin flair,” says Mark Anderson, Global LGBT Lead for Virgin Group. “We take our commitments to diversity and inclusion seriously, but you  can rest assured we have a lot of fun along the way. This is going to be a show-stopping, ground-breaking, one-of-a-kind experience that we  can‰Ûªt wait to bring to the skies next June.‰Û

Although the flight won’t depart for another nine months, it seems the idea has already taken off.

And fans were as surprised as they were excited to see Burgess hosting the event.

Customers can book a seat on the June 28 flight for $500 with an option for a three-night Virgin Holidays package from $920.  After Virgin announced the flight, people couldn’t book a ticket fast enough.

Hats off to Burgess and Virgin for showing the world how to celebrate Pride in style.
