Orange is the New Black star, Jason Biggs, is celebrating one year sober.
He took to Instagram to show his fans and support system his silver one year chip.
The full caption reads…
I first tried to get sober over 5 years ago, when the weight of my obsession with booze and drugs became too heavy for me to handle.
He went on to explain how difficult getting sober can be.
Turns out this shit is hard.
Before expressing gratitude that he’s gotten this far.
After some fits and starts, I’ve managed to put together one year of sobriety. I’m as proud of it as anything in my life.
And closing with support for anyone out there struggling.
If you’re struggling, know there’s help. Don’t be ashamed. We can do this.”
Addiction stigma is real. While personal anonymity is important for many in twelve step programs, those in a position to break that tradition in order to speak openly and honestly about their journey and choose to do so, do a lot of good work towards ending that stigma. This is especially the case for celebrities. Congratulations to Jason and we’re grateful that you’re sharing part of your story.
Jason Biggs’ wife, actress and author Jenny Mollen, also posted a sweet congratulatory message on her Instagram.
Many offered their congratulations…
Especially those who were also in recovery…
And many shared pieces of their own recovery journeys…
Congrats on putting together a year one day at a time.
