Newly elected Congresswoman, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez won her district in a landslide to become the youngest ever female elected to the House of Representatives. Part of Ocasio-Cortez’s appeal is her ability to keep things real and honest. Like when she recently admitted she couldn’t afford an apartment in Washington D.C., where most public officials spend a majority of their time.
Telling the New York Times:
“I can’t really take a salary. I have three months without a salary before I’m a member of Congress. So, how do I get an apartment? Those little things are very real.
We’re kind of just dealing with the logistics of it day by day, but I’ve really been just kind of squirreling away and then hoping that gets me to January.”
There is no chance of Ocasio-Cortez forgetting where she came from, which is evident in a recent tweet she sent out.
In response to T.V. writer Ryan O’Connell who tweeted:
I’m in awe of
@Ocasio2018. At 29 my biggest achievement was discovering I should maybe exercise.

Ocasio-Cortez responded with this down to earth tweet reminding us we never know what the future holds.
Last year I was bartending, and I bought my first couch two weeks ago – shortly after I got health insurance 😬
So don’t worry, growth doesn’t happen in a straight line! We’re all closer than we believe. https://t.co/G6ZEIgVoR8

I'm about to buy my first real couch (bachelor walmart couches don't count) in a few weeks lol… Growth is assymetrical.
