Gritty Was The Face Of A Philadelphia Protest Against The Alt-Right—And The Signs Are Genius 🔥

Philadelphia Flyers mascot Gritty made an appearance outside the hockey rink when he became the face of a group protesting the Proud Boys in his home city. The Proud Boys are a white supremacist group founded by Gavin McInnes, the co-founder of Vice Media. They promote political violence and preach “masculinity above all else.”

Ironically, their name is taken from the song “Proud of Your Boy” from the movie/musical Aladdin, with lyrics by Howard Ashman, a gay man who passed away from complications related to AIDS in the early ’90s.

In response to the Proud Boys making an appearance at a conservative “We The People” rally, more than 200 counter-protestors showed up to face them down in an event titled the PushBack Campaign.

“The residents and allies of Philadelphia must stand in opposition to this escalation of the far-right’s push into the city’s culture and politics,” says the campaign’s Facebook page.

The counter-protestors brought Gritty to fight for them.

The rally, attempted on Independence Mall, was quickly quashed by the watchful eyes of Gritty.

Philadelphia hopes to show that it will not tolerate white supremacy.

Once the Proud Boys conceded that Gritty had won the day, they tried to leave, but cab drivers reportedly refused to give them rides home.

Gritty’s revenge game is strong against racists.
