The author of the dystopian novel The Handmaid’s Tale, Margaret Atwood, announced on Twitter that she is penning a sequel that will be called The Testaments. It’s been 34 years since the release of The Handmaid’s Tale, which is currently a series on Hulu with Atwood as a consultant.
Penguin Random House announced the release will be on September 10, 2019. The story will be shown from three female characters 15 years after the main character, Offred, ruled Gilead.
“Everything you’ve ever asked me about Gilead and its inner workings is the inspiration for this book. Well, almost everything! The other inspiration is the world we’ve been living in.”
Yes indeed to those who asked: I’m writing a sequel to The #HandmaidsTale. #TheTestaments is set 15 years after Offred’s final scene and is narrated by three female characters. It will be published in Sept 2019. More details: https://t.co/e1umh5FwpX pic.twitter.com/pePp0zpuif
