Of all the heroes to appear at the last minute, one wouldn’t expect the villainous Negan to be among them. But actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays Negan on The Walking Dead, stepped up and adopted a pair of bonded animals named Jack and Diane.
We give you: Jack the donkey and Diane the emu.
The story first went viral at the start of November. Jack and Diane were discovered on an abandoned farm, stuck in a small pen together. The rescuers tried transporting the two separately, Jack the donkey first, but the animals weren’t having it.
As Jennifer Gordon, executive director of the Carolina Waterfowl Rescue described it:
“The emu went kind of crazy. She was sticking her head through the fences and we were worried she was gonna hurt herself.”
Despite other attempts to keep and transport the animals separately, the animals fought to remain together. It was very cute but made finding a home for the animals difficult.
Enter Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
Hey there… read the story… if you are looking for a forever home for jack and diane? Happy to take them, and keep them together at our farm. They would be a welcome addition to our menagerie of happy creatures. Xojd

Morgan tweeted that he’d be willing to adopt the two and let them live on his farm, keeping the pair together. From there, emails were exchanged between the rescuers and the actor to make arrangements.
Then, earlier this week, we received a cryptic update.
Little diddy about jack and Diane…

Jack and Diane had finally made it to their new home!

Loading up the trailer with our super star donkey emu team. We loaded Jack first and Diane stayed near him looking concerned. Once he was out of sight she frantically drummed for him. She willingly loaded up and has settled down next to Jack. ♥️ We decided to leave in the wee hours so we can get them to their new home before lunch and have some good daylight time for them to get settled. Emus also travel better at night when it's dark. We will be on the road for the next couple of hours while Jack and Diane sleep. They will wake up and be at their new home with Jeffrey Dean Morgan and @hilarieburton We are excited and hope that everyone can keep up with Jack and Diane at their new home. Jeffrey frequently posts pictures of his farm and animals on social media. We are super excited about them getting a perfect home!! . . . . . . #jackanddiane #adoptdontshop
Gonna give them a little time to settle in… both from drive and I’m sure… just… a hard life so far. That all changes forever today. They are home. Once they feeling secure and cool, I’ll be posting pics… I know you all are excited! We are too! ❤️

@JDMorgan, being awesome IRL is making it really difficult to hate #Negan (but not impossible…). Thanks for stepping up, showing compassion & kindness to a pair of BFFs, & thank you even more for NOT separating them! You. Are. More. Awesome. Than. #Lucille.

Jack and Diane were discovered at a time when the Carolina Waterfowl Rescue is struggling. The center is in the middle of raising $150,000 to move from its current location to a larger property where they can take care of larger animals.
