Miss Universe’s First Openly Transgender Contestant Looked Flawless As She Walked The Runway

Angela Ponce is the current reigning Miss Spain, which meant that this past Sunday, she competed in the Miss Universe pageant.

While she did not win the crown, Ponce broke major ground as the pageant’s first openly transgender contestant. This was made possible thanks to the 2012 reversal of a policy that barred transgender women from competing.

And Ponce tore it up on the runway.

Ponce explained in an interview:

“Trans women have been persecuted and erased for so long. I’m showing that trans women can be whatever they want.”

People were here for her.

And many pushed back against Ponce’s haters.

Congrats to Angela Ponce for blazing a path.
