Michelle Obama Just Rocked Some Thigh-High Glitter Boots—And We’re Obsessed ????

During her eight years as First Lady, Michelle Obama knew her fashion choices would be endlessly scrutinized, so she cultivated a style sense that was appropriately “first lady chic.” Now that she is back in the private sector, the gloves are off and the boots are on.

On Wednesday, Michelle joined moderator and fellow fashion icon Sarah Jessica Parker at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn for the latest stop in her Becoming book tour. You can purchase the book here.

But the unquestionable star of the show on Wednesday was the pair of thigh-high glitter boots worn by Mrs. Obama.

Mrs. Obama appeared on stage in a bright yellow, floor-length silk gown and a pair of glittering, thigh-high boots, both from Balenciaga.

Obama and Parker spoke about fashion, Mrs. Obama’s childhood, and life after leaving the White House. It was a memorable night for the lucky fans of the former first lady who had managed to snag tickets for the event.

The next day, however, all anyone could talk about was the boots.

Obviously, these were no ordinary boots, and people were understandably obsessed.

It was an audacious look for Mrs. Obama and a striking departure from the more muted tones of her time as First Lady, which she talked about with Parker.

“I did know that my clothes were making a statement, I knew that was the case. So we decided why don’t we use this platform to uplift some young new designers who normally wouldn’t get this kind of attention, because you can change their lives, which is one of the reasons why we chose Jason Wu for my inaugural gown.”

In her book, Obama also discussed the intense scrutiny she knew her fashion choices would face as the first black first lady.

“It was a thin line to walk. I was supposed to stand out without overshadowing others, to blend in but not fade away,” Mrs. Obama wrote.

“As a black woman, too, I knew I’d be criticized if I was perceived as being showy and high-end, and I’d also be criticized if I was too casual. So I mixed it up. I’d match a Michael Kors skirt with a T-shirt from Gap. I wore something from Target one day and Diane von Furstenberg the next.”

Yet somehow, while walking that thin line, she managed to be a style icon during her years in the White House.

Fans were in love though with the new fierceness Obama showed with her dazzling thigh-high boots.

Still, it was the type of fabulousness people have come to expect from Michelle Obama.

Many people look up to the former first lady and dream of following in her footsteps, but is anyone brave enough to consider walking a mile in these shoes?
