The Rock Surprised His Mom With A Brand New House—And Her Reaction Has Us Tearing Up ????

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson knows that the spirit of Christmas is about giving, not receiving, so he did just that––and purchased his mother, Ata Johnson, a new home.

The actor, of Fast and the Furious and Moana fame, captured her reaction on video and shared it with his Instagram following.

“All our lives growing up we lived in little apartments all across the country. Lived like gypsies on the road from one state to another,” he wrote. “The first home my parents ever lived in was the one I bought for them in 1999. They divorced about 5yrs later and as with life, stuff happens and things got a little complicated. Since then I always made sure my mom and dad have everything they’ll ever need – houses, cars etc.”

“But the house this time is a special one and the timing is very meaningful,” he continued. “I told her to treat this card like it’s “Willy Wonka’s Golden Ticket” because she gets to choose any home she wants – anywhere she wants. I always say, if you got a good mama, then you gotta pretty good shot at becoming a decent human being. And somehow, somewhere along the line I became one lucky SOB to be able to make stuff like this happen.”

The actor’s message resonated heavily with his followers, who were equally touched by his mother’s reaction.

The Rock, for all his success, has always been open about his childhood struggles. His family often relocated, settling in New Zealand and then in several different areas across the United States, including Connecticut, Hawaii, and Pennsylvania. Fame––first as a wrestler and later as a movie star––allowed him to engage in philanthropic pursuits. His generosity is reflected in the Dwayne Johnson Rock Foundation, which, among other things, works to “enrich and empower the lives and self-esteem of children who are hospitalized for medical disabilities, disorders and illnesses.”

He also once reunited a military vet with her husband…

…and once surprised a fan by renting out an entire theatre so she and her friends could see his film, Rampage.

And then, of course, there’s the joy he experiences when helping out friends and family.

Earlier this year, for example, he gifted his cousin Tanoi Reed––who has also worked as his stunt double for 17 years––with a new truck:

SURPRISE! I love handing over keys???????? I love you brother and enjoy your new truck! Over the course of my career, my stunt double (and cousin) Tanoai Reed @samoanstuntman has broken multiple bones, severed tendons, torn ligaments & just been an overall dominating bad ass achieving several “Stuntman of the Year” honors. All done with one goal in mind – deliver the best movie possible to the world. I had this custom pick up truck delivered just in time to surprise him (he’s still recovering from a stunt injury) while we give what he thought was going to be an interview about our careers together. As you’ll see the moment I put my hands on my hips, that’s the drivers cue to pull away and reveal the big surprise. Not only does Tanoai represent our family and my career with relentless commitment and passion. He also represents an entire Hollywood stunt community that is truly the backbone of our business. Love you uso and thank you for the blood, sweat, tears and years. We’re just getting started. Enjoy your new truck! #LetsRoll ????????

He is the best kind of man!
