The Poster For ‘Stranger Things’ Season 3 Is Here—And Things Don’t Look Good For Eleven

*Warning: Stranger Things season 2 spoilers ahead*

Fans have been anxiously awaiting the return of Netflix’s ’80s-style megahit Stranger Things from what feels like an interminable hiatus. When last we saw the Hawthorne gang just before Halloween 2017, they had teamed up to seal the portal between the upside-down and our world, fighting a bunch of demi-dogs in the process, and finally reuniting Eleven with her biggest fan, Mike.

What, fans are now wondering, will Season 3 bring? It seems Netflix is finally ready to start giving us a few hints. On New Year’s Eve, the show’s official Twitter account posted a video referencing Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve to help welcome 1985 to Hawthorne!

Then Netflix released the first poster for the show’s third season, which will premiere on the Fourth of July rather than Halloween!

Fans have already begun analyzing the poster. Several details stick out pretty quickly: Dustin and Max excited by the fireworks, Eleven and Mike holding hands, the distant lights of some sort of carnival.

But just beneath the surface, the poster holds more ominous secrets. Will and Eleven don’t seem to be enjoying the lights. In fact, they both seem to be looking over their shoulders towards something lurking behind…giant piles of dead rats? Could the entire poster be from the perspective of the Demogorgon? Or perhaps something even worse?

Some fans also pointed out that, in the poster, Mike and Eleven are wearing blue and yellow, which may be part of a line from the trailer: “When blue and yellow meet in the west.”

Fans are more hyped than ever to return to the world of Stranger Things and see what happens!

It’s been previously reported that The Princess Bride star Cary Elwes will appear in the show’s third season as the town’s shady mayor.

The countdown until July 4 begins now! We’re headed back to Hawthorne.
